THE REGENT. MONSTER TWO STAR PROGRAMME. Patrons to The Regent to-night will have the pleasure of enjoying two of the most pleasing talking pictures yet produced. “A Notorious Affair,” starring Billie Dove and Basil Rathbone, will be “screened (first. It depicts a woman’s fight to make her llu&b'and famous and successful, then her subsequent battles to, keep her loyalty are convincingly shown in this picture. Billie Dove ,does some of the best acting of her career, expressing emotions without overacting. Moiitague Love and Kay Francis head a superb supporting cast. “Top Speed” is the title of the second production and it is undoubtedly one of the most successful comedy dramas of the present year. Joe E. Brown (the famous big mouthed comedian of “Sally”) and Bernice Claire (of “No, No Nanette” fame) head a clever cast in this hilarious story of two boys who pose as millionaires at a great holiday resort. “Top Speed” has the added action of a thrilling speed boat race and some catchy singing and dancing. 'The shorts include Rathe News and “Singing Saps” (Aesop Table). EVERYBODY’S TO-NIGHT. RUTH CHATTERTON’S LATEST. The screen has featured any number of famous co-starring teams. The tremendous success of these teams is, of course, known to everyone interested in motion pictures. To-day, however, there is a new team that many consider to be the finest combination now appearing on tho audible screen. These • two players do not always appears in the same picture. Up to now they have twice played opposite each other. . The first time whs in that gay, sophisticated picture, “Charming Sinners.” More recently they shared honours in “The Laughing Lady.” They are Ruth Chatterton and Clive Brook. In their latest picture, “The Better Wife,” commencing at Everybody’s to-night, Miss Chattel ton and Brook arc not only given a stirring story of human emotions, but are also afforded splendid acting parts. Miss Chatterton’s desperate struggle to prove herself worthy of the man she has fallen in love with is the interesting plot structure upon which “The Better Wife” is based. The supports will include Australian Movietone News, “Clowning the Game” (Sportlight), “I’m Forever Blowinc- Bubbles” (screen song) “The Big Splash” (comedy), “Tis Price” and “Song Service” (Paramount shorts). There will be a matinee Friday at 2 p.m. NEW THEATRE, OPUNAKE. “THE CAT CREEPS.” To-night there will be the final screening of “Old English” at the New Theatre, Opunake, and those who have not seen that English genius George Arliss in his greatest success should not miss this last opportunity. To.-.morrow night "The Cat "Creeps,” a hair-raising drama by John Willard, which created a furore in New York, will open a three-night season at the New Theatre. The very name is suggestive of mystery. The picture is' the strangest mystery drama ever screened. It abounds with thrills and chills to make one shiver, but at the same time there are numerous situations in which the audience must scream with laughter one moment and be spellbound with tense excitement the next. There is an all-star cast headed by Helen Twelvetrees, Raymond Hackett, Jean Hcrsholt, Neil Hamilton and Montagu Love.
