Christofel is visiting friends at Hawera. , A most enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mrs. A. Brown on Saturday afternoon, her grand-daughter’s Patricia McLean, second birthday, being celebrated. Over 20 children were present. ‘ 1 ' TARANAKI HUNT CLUB BALL. The Waihi memorial hall was crowded on Thursday night for the Taranaki Hunt Club ball. The hall, which was beautifully decorated, made a fine set-; ting, for the picturesque hunting garb and old world frocks. St. Matthew’s Church, Christchurch, was s the scene of the wedding recently of Norma, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Towart, Christchurch, and George, only -son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilton,Kuniara, formerly of Napier. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon P. Hamilton and Mr. Dulgrim was the organist. . >' ' The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming frock of ivory embossed georgette, the long bodice of which was slightly shirred at the waist.' The skirt hung in graceful flares to the feet with extra circular side panels. Her beautiful hand-em-broidered veil was arranged cap effect with a tiny wreath of orange blossom and fell gracefully to form a long train. Her bouquet was of lovely hot-house flowers. The bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy Towart, sister of the bride, and Misi* Clara Hooper, wore frocks of blue lioral rreorgette made on similar lines to the Sride’s frock. Their large felt hats toning from apricot to deep orange, matched the floral of their frocks. The bouquets of chrysanthemums were of the same toning. Two little flower girls, Marie Cox, Hawera, cousin of the bride, and Patricia Towart, niece of the bride, wore powder blue georgette frocks ankle length and frilled from the waist. Their little Juliet caps were of gold lace trimmed with tiny blue flowers, and they carried dainty little rucked muffs of the same material as their frocks. The bride’s mother chose a rich black frock of georgette-backed satin and velvet trimmed felt hat. She carried a bouquet of violets. The mother of the -bridegroom wore a smart navy ensemble suit of crepe-de-chine with hat to tone. Her bouquet was of spring flowers. Mrs. 0. Cox, Hawera, aunt of the bride, wore a black georgette ensemble suit with panel's of black and gold brocade and a white fox fur. Her hat was of black panne velvet. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Tony Campbell, and Mr. Arthur Towart was groomsman. After the wedding about 100 guests were entertained at a reception and dan.ee in St. Matthew's schoolroom. Later Mr. and Mrs. Wilton left on a tour of Westland, the bride wearing a I twefrd ensemble suit and hit to tone.

NEW PLYMOUTH RED CROSS

NURSE’S ACTIVITY DURING JULY. The New Plymouth Red Cross Society held its monthly meeting on Wednesday. Mrs. A. Patrick, vice-president, presided over an attendance of ten members. Sister Corkill reported that the weekly classes were progressing, the New Plymouth home nursing class having concluded and an examination having been held during the. week. A class for Girl Guards had begun, and during the month the Girl Guides’ tca.m which had entered for the Jellicoe Shield competition had been coached for the event. The women's detachment bad met for practice during the month, and a successful social evening had been held on Julv 18 at Mrs. Rennie’s home, when the’detachment’s funds had been augmented considerably. A lecture on chronic dyspepsia bad been given by Dr. W. J. Reid. The Westown circle of the Junior Red Cross gave a splendid concert during the month, the proceeds to. go towards buying a sewing machine for. the sewing club of the womens detachment. The sum of £7 7s 3d had been raised, and an excellent machine had been bought. Six circles had had monthly first-aid classes, and two other schools had been addressed on the aims and objects of the. Junior Red Cross and intended forming circles. Eight schools had been visited with the school medical officer for the annual examination. Two other schools were prepared, and two others visited in connection with skin complaints. Seven children had received treatment for minor ailments, and nineteen, parents had been visited in regard to treatment required. Relief work had been exceedingly heavy in the past month, the continuous wet weather making distress much more acute. Much time had been given to interviewing applicants for help, of whom there had been large numbers. Fifty-seven visits had been paid . to homes, and treatmept had been given 1 five cases. The thanks of the society were accorded the many donors of foodstuffs, which had included meat, vegetables, nroccricS, jams, cakes and bread. The society also acknowledged parcels of clothing, a gift of fuel from the St. Vincent de Pau. Society, a large supply of vegetables from the Tarata VVomen’s Institute, and donations for relief work from “Anonymous” £5, “Anonymous” £l, “A Friend’ £l, Mrs. Newman and Miss Hempton.
