BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
TARANAKI TEAM LEAVES TO-DAY. Taranaki will be represented by a team of four at the New Zealand boxing championship meeting at Ashburton ■on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. The team comprises: D. Roebuck (New Plymouth), bantam. R. Furze (Tikorailgi), welter. E. Griffen (Inaha), light-heavy. B. Turner (Waitara), feather. The team, which will leave by the express this morning, should do ■ edit to the province. Roebuck and Griffen have already had championship experience on two occasions —at Greymouth in 1929 and Palmerston North in 1930. Roebuck has performed with distinction, having been runner-up in the flyweight division in 1929 and receving the medal for the most scentific boxer at the Dominion tournament last year. With a little luck he should have had a title each year. Griffen als< performed very creditably in the middleweight on each occasion and should benefit by the experience. Furze took part last year in the welter division at Palmerston North and the verdict went against him in his preliminary greatly to the surprise of the audience, who ha acclaimed him the winner. Turner is a novice as far as New Zealand championship aspirations are concerned, but he ha c only to show his Taranaki ring form to have a. say in the final decision.
