TARANAKI WOMEN’S CLUB.

The ueedlecraft circle of the Taranaki Women’s Club met on Tuesday evening. There were ovex' 20 present, and they listened with great interest to a talk given by Mrs. Stonnell, Lepperton. Mrs. Stonnell spoke of Austria, Vienna in particular, telling of life in general in the city, education, music and art. Suppex- was served by Mrs. Cock and Mrs. Snowball. Owing to the very wet night only 20 members were present at the bridge evening on July 23. The prize for the highest score was won by Mrs. A. L. Humphries and that for the hidden numbei' by Mrs. Boon. Saturday last was the occasion of a visit from the play-x'eading circle of the Hawera Women’s Club to the Taranaki Women’s Club. The visitors gave a spirited reading of Oscar Wilde’s witty comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” to a delighted audience. ■ Those taking part were Mesdames Woodward, Fryberg, O’Callaghan and Trottei' and Misses Reilly, Glen, Corrigan, Page and Burgess. MANGATOKI BIRTHDAY PARTY. Mr. and Mrs. T. Linn entertained about 70 guests at theix- residence, Hastings Road, on Monday to celebrate the 21st birthday of theix* daughter, Miss Gladys Lixin. The large billiard room was cleared fox' dancing, which was intermingled with a few games and competitions. In cosy rooms non-dancers played bridge, five hundred and euchre. The dancing went merrily with Mrs. Attrill’s music and extras -by Miss Nita Perry and the gramophone. Mi'. Nelson Linn was master of ceremonies. Mr. Alf. Willan and Mrs. Cliff. Pease won the first Monte Carlo, and Mr. Henry and Miss Amy Sulzberger the second. The musical parcel game was won by Mr. Sulzberger, and the lucky parcel by Miss Joan Nicholas. Carnival hats in wonderful variety were worn, the lucky numbered hats being found ou the heads of Mrs. Eric Goodacre and Mr. Mortlock.

Prioi' to the cutting of the birthday cake, Mr. D. L. A. Astbury expressed the good wishes of the guests and congratulated Miss Linn.
