NATIVE BIRD PROTECTION

WORK OF THE N.Z. SOCIETY. An illustration of the fact that “persistency wins” is provided by the increasing success of the efforts of bird-lovers to foster a popular appreciation of New Zealand’s native bird-life. Although the movement has a long way to go, there is evident throughout the Dominion a considerable interest (much of it latent and unspoken) in the birds themselves and in their value to the forests and to the coinmunity in general. For the growth of this sentiment, much credit is due to the N.Z. Native Bird Protection Society, a voluntary organisation that has for years been steadily spreading ideas and information on behalf of the native birds.

In order to make a great advance in the good work, the Native Bird Protection Society has organised an art union, to provide a special fund for research work, for the fostering of public interest, and for the diffusion of knowledge amongst the people of the Dominion. It would be difficult to imagine a more worthy cause, and the society’s enterprise should prove a great blessing to New Zealand.
