SUDDEN DEATH OF A MAORI

AT WORK ON FARM AT MAHOENUI

The death of a Maori farmer, Huiroa Ngapaki, occurred suddenly at Mahoenui on Wednesday morning. The matter was reported to Constable Cantion, Mokau, who directed that an inquest be held before a justice of the peace and a jury. * Ngapaki was at his work on his farm as usual on Tuesday, but at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon he complained to another Maori who was working with him of pain in the stomach. He' continued to work for some time, but later stopped and went to his house. The pain continued, and he went to bed between 8 and 9 o’clock. He was attended by his wife, but the pain became worse during the night, and he died at about five o’clock on the following morning. Ngapaki had been attended by a doctor during his last illness. He had always enjoyed good health, but at times complained of pain in the stomach while working. He would usually rest for a while and then continue his work.
