Mrs. W. D. Graham, accompanied by Mrs. I. E. Faria, Inglewood, left on Tuesday morning for Palmerston North and Wellington.

The New Plymouth branch of the Interdenominational Council of Youth Workers held an interesting meeting on in the Y.W.C.A. club-room. The subject for discussion was the history of the various denominations and their distinctive features. Papers were read by members of the Baptist, Anglican, and Methodist Churches and of the Society of Friends. The subject for the next fortnightly meeting will be the Christian attitude to the coloured races.

Johnson. ■ ® SCENES FROM DICKENS. f - AN ATTRACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT An attractive entertainment has been arranged for next Wednesday evening at St. Mary’s Hall, when several scenes from the works of Dickens will be presented, dressed in the costumes of the period. The principal item will be the famous breach of promise trial, Bardell v. Pickwick, which will be staged with all the full court procedure. The story and the process of the trial is brimful of humour, and with the strong cast eelected (which is advertised in to-day’s issue)' it should form a very entertaining part of the programme. As a preliminary to the trial there will also be given the fainting scene (which constitutes the cause of action) between Mrs. Bardell and Pickwick, and the witnesses of the occurrence. In addition there -will also be presented the acene from Oliver Twist, known as Mrs. Gorney’s tea-party, in which the principal parts will be taken by Miss W. Wise and Mr. J. H. Sheat. Tickets are one •hilling and sixpence each. High School piipils will be admitted for one shilling. TARANAKI WOMEN’S CLUB. The first evening of the Debating Society of the Taranaki Women's Club wan held on Monday evening. Miss E. Andrews, as convenor, presided, and about fifteen members spoke for three minutes each on many subjects which had been drawn for previous to the meeting. The evening proved most interesting and instructive. The fortnightly meeting of the bridge icirclo. of the Women’s Club. was held on Thursday night, progressive bridge beino' played. Miss McKellar won the prize for the highest score and Mrs. R. Boon the prize for tho hidden number.
