STRATFORD RAILWAY LINE
ITS COMPLETION NEXT YEAR ASSURANCE FROM THE MINISTER. HOPE FOR INCREASE IN TRADE.. Construction work on the StratfordMain Trunk railway line is to be completed within twelve months, according to a telegram received by the president of tlie Taranaki Chamber of Commerce (Mr. L. M. Moss) at the annual meeting of the chamber last night. The telegram was sent by the Hon. S. G. Smith, after consultation with the Minister responsible, in response to a telegraphed request from the chamber earlier in the day. The matter was also tlie subject of brief comment by Mr. Moss in moving the adoption of the report and balaiicesheet at the annual meeting of the chamber. “Work on the StratfordMain Trunk Railway has been continued during the year with some interruption due to labour troubles,” said Mr. Moss, “but the work is now far advanced towards completion, and we hope that next year’s report will record the opening of this important feeder to the port of New Plymouth. The harbour board is alive to the necessity for providing, trade facilities to meet the steady increase in trade, but has wisely decided for the present to defer large capital expenditure.”
