Hutchison, three slipper baths at the tepid baths were recently placed at the disposal of the unemployed. It was stated by the deputation that there wore 400 men in Auckland who could not get baths. Mr. W. K. Howitt, chairman of the Belief Committee of the Auckland Hospital Board, who visited the baths with Mr. A. Spencer, president of the Employers’ Association, on Tuesday said only, an average of about 18 men* a day were making tine of the three baths, many of them men who had returned each day. Allowing a quarter of an hour for each man to have his bath, a total of 96 men could use the baths each day. “The baths are vacant more than half the time,” Mr. Howitt said. “A clean towel and a piece of soap are provided, and to,the ordinary person the cost of lining the bath- is 9d.
