CAR BLOWN OFF ROAD

ACCIDENT DURING GALE. INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS. Palmercston North, June 18. Through their motor-car being blown off the road by a high wind, Mr. and Mrs. Cooksley had an unenviable experience. The accident happened near Jhe intersection of River Bank Road and the Old Wellington Road, Fitzherbert. Mr. Cooksley had negotiated a rightangle bend safely, but, caught by the »ale a few chains on the Palmerston North side of the turn, he found it impossible to keep the car on the road, as the wind was coming down the gully with great force. The car went over the side of the road into the creek, Mrs. Cooksley being thrown into the windscreen and receiving serious cuts on the face, which involved subsequent surgical attention. She was removed to the hospital, where an examination revealed the probability of a broken leg also. Mr. Cooksley had a knee injured. The car was damaged extensively.
