THICK FOG AT AUCKLAND

TRAFFIC IN CITY HAMPERED.

COLLISIONS NARROWLY AVOIDED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 9.

An extraordinarily thick fog enveloped Auckland at three o’clock this mornin<r and did not lift for seven hours. AH traffic was hampered and extreme caution was necessary to avoid collisions in the streets and on the harbour. Several ferry boat masters describe the fog as the heaviest ever experienced and some boats had to reverse sharply when approaching their berths. The Union • Company steamer Tofua was delayed five hours through waiting for the fog to lift. Smaller ships were similarly delayed.
