CHAIRMAN’S HONORARIUM

REDUCTION OF TEN PER CENT.

EGMONT COUNTY DECISION.

The honorarium of the chairman was fixed at £9O at the annual meeting of the Egmont County Council yesterday. This is the same honorarium as last year less a cut of 10 per cent. Cr. Young first moved that the honorarium be £75. This was seconded by Cr. Tosland, who said they had to forget personalities and look at the revenue that was coming in. The chairman had given splendid service, but it was necessary that he ’should help to meet the position caused by the drop in revenue. He would be only too pleased to raise the honorarium when things improved. Cr. Gibson remarked that a cut of 25 per ceiit. was proposed in the honorarium; whereas only 10 per cent, had been deducted from the staff’s salaries. He moved an amendment that the honorarium be the same as last year, less 10 per cent. Cr. Collins suggested that to be fair to the chairman the 10 per cent, less should apply only to the past six months.

The amendment was carried, whereupon Cr. Tosland moved a further amendment that the honorarium be £SO, but this lapsed for want of a uconder.
