TUNNELLERS’ DISPUTE
MEN’S SUGGESTIONS REJECTED, ULTIMATUM EXPIRES TO-MORROW By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Further suggestions as to the basis of a settlement of the tunnellers’ dispute were made by representatives of the Workers’ Union at a conference with the departmental engineers yesterday, but they have not been accepted by the Cabinet. Mr. G. W. Forbes stated to-day that the men had suggested a compromise on the basis of the Arbitration Court’s 10 per cent, cut, also an extension of time to resume work. “The position still is that if the men do not resume by Thursday their places will be filled by others,” added the Prime Minister.
