THE GOVERNMENT’S INTENTION.

FARMERS’ WISHES PARAMOUNT.

An assurance that nothing would be done in connection with the removal of the embargo on the importation of cattle int-> New Zealand without the concurrence of those most vitally interested, was given by the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour, at the opening of the winter show in New Plymouth yesterday. “f'he Government has not lifted the embargo and there is no danger that it will permit foot and mouth disease to come into the country,” he said. “But the Government has been approached to relax the regulations, as, in the opinion of many farmers, the time is ripe for the importation of new blood. The matter of the importation of fresh stock is one that must, have the fullest and most careful consideration of those interested in the welfare of the primary industries in New Zealand. , „ , “Farmers can be assured, he concludid, ‘‘that nothing will be done without Ibe concurrence of those most vitally inf-rested and that they will be consulted before anything is done.”
