THE WINTER SHOW

22ND ANNUAL EXHIBITION.

OPENING THIS AFTERNOON.

Having attained its majority last year, the Aletropolitan Agricultural Society’s winter show is. continuing to make forward strides. The entries for the ,22nd show, which will open this afternoon and continue until Friday night, show an increase of 180. That is all bhe more remarkable when it is realised that last year everyone connected with the show made an extra effort to ensure that the 21st anniversary show would be something special. The show is a very comprehensive oue, embracing something to interest' every section of the community, and to that it owes its success. It must be encouraging to the officials to note the support that is accorded them in all sections.

The entries in the competitive classes, exclusive of the dogs, total 2738, and they comprise poultry, dairy produce, ham, fruit, vegetables, field roots, hay, home industries, schools section and rabbits. Striking features are the entries in the home industries section, which establish a record, and the schools section, which has made a great dvance. A new section is that for mechanical models, and it has drawn large entries. The show comprises many new features that should prove popular, and the lay-out has been improved so that the exhibits may be seen to better advantage and to provide more accommodation for the public. The North Taranaki motor traders again have taken the Coronation Hall, where they are displaying the latest models of all the popular cars. A feature that is certain to attract also is the new aeroplane exhibited by the New Plymouth Aero Club. The trade displays are equal to the usual standard. Several novel ones are included. The amusements area will make an irresistible appeal. The Taranaki A and P. Poultry Show, the Taranaki ■ Rabbit Breeders’ Show and the New Plymouth Kennel Club’s show, which are all held in conjunction, have attracted splendid entries. In the Kennel Club’s show prominent breeders from all parts of the North Island will be competing against Taranaki fanciers. Judging of the exhibits will be pushed forward this morning and the show will be officially opened at 2 p.m. by the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour. To-morrow the Poultry Show will open, and on Thursday the Kennel Club show. Thursday will also be the special day for town children, and Friday for country children. All that is now needed to ensure success is fine weather to enable the public to attend in large numbers. _ A great attraction of such an exhibition is the opportunity it affords members of the farming community of viewing the best quality produce and of ascertaining how the results have been achieved, while it gives the townsman some idea of the importance of primary production -.to the town and district, and should act as an incentive to him to show his appreciation by; according; the &hpw his

support and so enable its usefulness to be increased. The entries, with those of last year for comparison, are:—
