PLUNKET SOCIETY’S BALL

ANNUAL CHILDREN'S DANCE. The children's fancy dress ball conducted by the Waverley branch of the Plunket 'Society was held on Friday night and this year there was quite.the number of costumes as in previous years, and the children seemed to enjoy themselves wholeheartedly. Everything had been arranged to make the dance a success. The hall was decorated with coloured streamers and greenery, while the supper room and tables were decorated with autumn-tinted chrysanthemums and holly 'berries which had a very attractive appearance. Assistance with the children was given by several of the school teachers and Messrs Boyne, Dalrymple and Christenson. A competition for a beautiful cake made 'by Mrs. Alex Aikin netted the splendid sum of almost £9, and was won hy Mr. Frank. WAVERLEY GOLF CLUB. ■SATURDAY'S MEDAL ROUND. Members of the Waverley Golf Club played a medal round competition on Saturday, R. Cathie with a net 77. returning the best card. S. Aiken and 'I. With the engagement of a good orchestra and with free buses from Hawera and Okaiawa a good attendance is expected. The Manaia Hall provides a first-class dancing floor. Miss Flora and Netta Duff have returned to New Plymouth. Mr. Gordon Cunningham is the guest of Mr. and Mrs f Espin. Mr. Leo McPhillips, Hawera, and Messrs. Joyce Bros, will settle at Auroa on July 1. Mr. Lance Parsons has taken a lease of the late Awe Pepe’s farm on on Auroa Road.

The electric light will be installed along Auroa Road this month. To show how' mild the winter has been so far, very few farmers have needed to start “feeding out,” whereas last year at this time, feeding out had been in full swing for three weeks. Mr. N. J. Ashby is visiting old friends at New' Plymouth and Tarurutangi. .There was at attendance of 25 farmers, presided over by Mr. A. W. King, on Saturday night to listen to a lecture on animal husbandry by Mr. Denize. Prior to the address a short meeting was held with Mr. King in the chair

and Mr. H. Hartley acting as secretary, regarding the farmers’ ball. It was decided to meet the ladies of the Women’s Division on June 12 to finalise arrangements.

Mr. King also gave a resume of the executive meeting of the union held recently at Hawera. A vote of thanks was accorded the officials of the Department of Agriculture for their help in coping with noxious weeds with sodium chlorate. Mr. Denize dealt with the ailments and cures and management in general of cattle, sheep and pigs, and answered many questions, thus giving’ much invaluable information.
