WORST DROUGHT FOR YEARS HAVOC IN THE WHEAT CROP THREE PROVINCES SUFFER FARMERS NEEDING MONEY By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, June 5. Declaring that the wheat crop is faced with the greatest drought in years, Mr. J. F. Bryant, Minister for Public Works, is requesting all clergymen' throughout Saskatchewan to unite in a day of prayer for rain. Tlic Manitoba Free Press in a survey of crop conditions declares that the outlook as a result of the drought is the worst in 29 years.. The drought is general through the three Prairie provinces. The Premier (Mr. Brownlee) of Alberta declares that unless the Government guarantees an initial payment of 50 cents a bushel to the wheat growers there will not be enough money in circulation next autumn to keep the country going. He is arranging a conference of the three Prairie province Premiers, wheat pool officials and the Prime Minister, Mr. R. B. Bennett.
