PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY
REV. A. BEGG MODERATOR-ELECT. NO REDUCTION IN SALARIES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 6. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church unanimously declared the Rev. Adam Begg, of Highfleld, Timaru, Moderator-Elect for 1932. ~ The report of the sub-committee of elders, which considered the question of reducing ministerial salaries, was presented. The convener said that many ministers and missionaries had intimated their willingness to share the sacrifices made by the community, but the committee recognised that the stipends now paid were very inadequate, and compared unfavourably with the wages generally paid in the community. Moteover, they had not participated in the increases that had characterised the salaries of others during the past few years. The committee was convinced that there should be no reduction. His colleagues of the committee, all business men, were of opinion that the minimum stipend should be increased rather than decreased The report was adopted.
