NEW ERA IN COMMUNICATIONS
ENGLISH AIR MAILS AT SYDNEY. 25 DAYS TO COMPLETE TRIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Rec. 8.35 p.m. Sydney, April 29. The first English air mail, which arrived at Sydney by the air liner Southern Sun to-day, open? a new era in Imperial communications, the trip ha>in’ occupied 25 days. The Melbourne portion of the mail was transferred to the Southern Star, which is expected to arrive in Melbourne this evening. The arrival at Sydney was marked; by an interesting official ceremony Si Mascot aerodrome. The Evening Press printed a series of splendid pictures of aeroplane activity at Darwin and Koepang, the badly damaged City of Cairo, a "roup of photographs showing the pilots of the ill-fated air liner, Dutch officials, natives, and the inhospitable scene of the crash at Koepang. The Sun also publishes an epitome of news from London papers published on the day of the City of Cairo’s departure for Australia. SMITH LEAVES FOR SINGAPORE. AUSTRALIA TO ENGLAND MAILS. Recd. 9.15 p.m. Sourabaya, April 29. The Southern Cross upon it? arrival yesterday afternoon was welcomed by a large crojvd. The plane started for Singapore this morning. She struck mud ond with the assistance of soldiers finally got away at 9.40 a.m., local time.
