WORK OF DISTRICT NURSE

ACTIVITIES IN NEW PLYMOUTH. MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. Comprehensive reports of the recent work accomplished Under the auspices of the New Plymouth District Nurse Association were received at the last meeting of the association. The secretary reported splendid work was still being done by the Egniont Village Ladies’ Sewing Guild, the members of this guild haying made and still making many useful garments for the poor and in addition to thus giving their services, they each contribute a small sum at each meeting, with which they will ultimately purchase new material, such as flannel for shirts; Of course new material is not used for all garments, many dresses, coats, boys’ trousers, etc., having been made up from other garments that have been <riven for the purpose. ° It was decided that the secretary should try to arrange for a central sewin<r room for the use of the ladies of the New Plymouth Sewing Guild (one room having been offered) in view of the fact that there was no longer a

sewing machine available at the Hospital Board’s office; also it was considered too far for some ladies to come to the sewing room at the Hospital Board’s office. The secretary gave a short talk on the work done at the meetings of the National Council of Women and spoke of some of the remits which were to have come before the recent conference. The secretary was empowered to pay the yearly membership fee to the National Council of Women, also an account for spectacles which were very badly needed by one of the refugees housed in the East End pavilion, this account to be paid from the emergency fund.
