CROQUET AT WESTERN PARK

; PRESENTATION OF. TROPHIES. : The trophies-won by members- of. the Western Park Croquet Club were presented at the club’s grounds by the president (Mr. F. Hartnell) yesterday.' During, the afternoon competitions • and games were played. There was a good attendance of members from the other clubs in New Plymouth.. “It is not so long ago,” said Mr. Hartnell, “that members cannot still vividly recall when the club started to make its ground. With pardonable pride members may say they have succeeded fairly well in building up a happy and prosperous little club, with lawns of which it can be proud.” Members would note that the club was extending its property arid hoped next year to be able to play on the new grounds. He thanked the other clubs in New Plymouth for their patronage and support. The first presentation was the cup for the winner of the open championship, Mrs. Jull. Mrs. Jull had taken a prominent part in the club since its inception, It was the first time the cup, which had been presented by Mrs. Tingey, had been played for. Mrs. Tingey had been the runner-up. With the cup went a small trophy to be retained by the winner. The next trophy was the Dalgleish rose bowl, the handicap trophy, which had been won by Mrs. Hartnell, with Mrs. Turnbull -runner-up. The president then presented the brooches won in the three. grades as follows; Senior brooch, Mrs. Jull; run-ner-up, Mrs. Honeyfield; winner of brooch for B players, Mrs. Turnbull; runner-up, Mrs. Ward; winner,of brooch for C players, Mrs. Sheehy; runner-up, Mrs. Tomlin. Competitions were won as follows:,— Golf croquet, Mrs. .Codd. (Inglewood); trail croquet, Mrs. L. Brown; ladder croquet, Mrs. Sutton; bull’s-eye competition, Mrs. White. The prize for the most points won by an honorary member at 'golf croquet was won- by Mrs. Tavendale. The wristlet watch competition was won by Miss A. Honeyfield.
