W.D.F.U. FUNCTION AT OKAIAWA
A concert arranged by the Hawera Scottish Society was held in the Okaiawa hall on Friday in aid of the W.D.F.U. in furtherance of the desire of branches in Taranaki to subsidise £ for £ the £25 donated by the Farmers’ Trading Company, Auckland, to place a bush nurse in Taranaki. In opening Mr. Wards explained the aims of the W.D.F.U. and especially laid stress on the bush nurse and housekeeper scheme. Items were given by Afessrs. E. Pacey, L. A. Taylor, Stevenson, Alesdames Webber and Ganna way (songs), Aliss AVhitelock and Air. Don Wards (recitations), Aliss D. Nairn (Scottish dances), Air. E. K. Canieron (conjuring tricks), and Aire. Webber and Air. Taylor (duet). Mbs. L. A. Taylor played the accompaniments for the singers, and Piper Linn accompanied Aliss Nairn. Air. E. J. Betts, president of the provincial executive of South Taranaki thanked the artists at the elose of the concert on behalf of the ladies. Supper wars served by the following committee: Mesdames D. Cameron, Oldfield, G. Good, Shearer, Booth, Alack, Rudkin, Blair and Miss Washer. Dancing followed to Mr. Robertson’s gramophone music. Air. Clem Blair was master of ceremonies. A prize donated by Aliss Washer for the sale of the most tickets was won by Alarion Cameron.
