OAKURA W.D.F.U. EVENING
FUNDS FOR COMMUNITY CHEST. An enjoyable and successful function in aid of the community chest of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was recently held, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Thomas, Ahu Ahu Road, Oakura. The hostesses, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Wilkins, assisted by Misses M. and Susan Thomas, expended every effort towards a, pleasurable evening, which was fully appreciated by over 100 people. Every home in the district was represented. The spacious verandah, decorated with ferns by Mr. Frank Mace, was used as a lounge for the young people, who danced and played games on the lawn which was specially lighted for the occasion. Other guests played progressive euchre. After a delicious home-made supper much merriment was caused by the competition, “a motor-car wedding.” Mr. F. Mace and Mr. J; Emslie were masters of ceremonies. Wireless and gramophone music was interspersed with extras play? ed.by Mr. J. Bright. ■ Beautiful prizes went to the competb tion winners, Mesdames Browne, Eric Penwarden, Haskell, L. .Brown and Knight, Misses Allen, Honeyfield, Price, Reid, Bond and Goodwin, Messrs. Honeyfield, Stavely, Richmond, Knagman, junr., Goodwin and Batten and Master Harvey. The evening was brought to a close with cheers for Mr* and Mrs. Thomas.
