ROEBUCK CUP COMPETITION.
The second shoot for the Roebuck Cup was fired on the Okato range ou Saturday at 500 and 600 yards, G. W. Benton, with an excellent 92, being top scorer. There was a dull light with a. fish-tail wind. The scores . Hp. Rifle, in
The final will be fired next Saturday, and should prove interesting, as Rook is leading by one point from Putt and C. W. Benton. . .. , The euchre party and dance, organised by the hall committee, held on Saturday night attracted a large gathering. Cards were played in the supper room, while Mr. C. C. Eustace as M.C. kept the dameera busy to the excellent music Of. the West Coast dance band. The musicians, Miss Peterson (piano), Messrs. Cocksedge (flute), Slater (saxophone), Hodge (violin) and Hawkins, and. Moffat (drums) kindly gave their services gratuitously. The winners at cards weie Mrs. Thompson and Mr. J. Black. The county council’s rotary crusher has been set up at the Stony River depot preparatory to crushing for the new deviation. Thife will be tar-sealed as soon as it is re-coated. Owing to some of the hardwood not coming to hand, the construction of the Carrington Road bridges is not proceeding as expeditioufely as was anticipated. Carrying, his age wonderfully well, despite his °BO years, Mr. P. O’Sullivan, a highly respected local resident, celebrated his birthday on Sunday. . He and Mrs. O’Sullivan were the recipients o’ many congratulatory m&sfiagss. Mrs. A. Corbett and Mrs. Wooldridge, Dover Road, are spending a holiday m the South Island. Miss Walton has gone to Wanganui for a, holiday. _ . Mr. A. J. Roebuck is in the New Plymouth hospital with a poisoned finger. Mr. J. S. Fox, accompanied by Mr. J. D. Fox, returned from a trip to Chateau Tongariro and Manawatu on Thursday.
