NEW PLYMOUTH CRICKET

MATCH WITH LABURNUM. WIN FOR TOWN ELEVEN. A cricket team from the New Plymouth. clubs defeated team frura H.M.S. Laburnum by 72 runs on the first innings in a match played at Pukekura Park yesterday. The New Plymouth team batted first and scored 170 runs, the highest scorers being A. Clarke 30, Ewart 30, Jackson 2a and Nasmith 27. Bowling for the Laburnupi team Forster took four wickets for 40 runs, Beer four for 89 runs and Westmacott one for 14. The Laburnum team replied with a score of 98, Thew making 31 not out, Westmacott 21 and Forster 13. Bowling for the New Plymouth team Allbn took four wickets for 17 runs, Macallan three for 0 and Ferry two for 9. In a second innings, tho Laburnum team made 102, Hindlay scoring 26, Page 21 and Burden 14 not out. Ewart took four wickets for 6 runs. THUSRDAY COMPETITION. Inglewood and Waitara will meet at Inglewood to-day in what may be the deciding match of the Thursday competition. Should Inglewood gain the victory it will be the winner of the competition. Should Waitara gain a threepointer it will be level with Inglewood, and as each team has yet to play Elthiim the position will be interesting. To-day will be the fifth occasion on which W titara and ‘lnglewood have met this season, Inglewood having gained three two-point wins and Waitara one thr?apoint win. Stratfbrd seniors v. Okaiawa, at Okaiawa: Hamilton, Dormer, Donnelly, Hall, Gattoji, Wilson, Mel. Young, Beere, Cover, Collins, Henderson, Hancock (12th mail). Juniors v. Hawera High School at Stratford: Same as last Saturday.
