GIGANTIC NEW CUNADER
COMPLETION IN YEAR PROBABLE. PROBLEM TO TRANSPORT PARTS, British Wireless. Rugby, Feb. 17. The new 70,000-ton Cunarder may. be ready for launching by the end of next February if the present expectations of John Brown Ltd.,, the builders, are realised. Work both in the Clycleside yard and in the factories and foundries in the various industrial centres is progressing rapidly with day and night shifts. The transport of special parts from places as far distant as Darlington, invites problems for which many solutions will be found. The weight of the rudder is 150 tons, requiring a specially prepared vessel, to carry it from Middlesbrough to the Clyde. The gigantic size of the new liner is such that each of the funnels would contain the’ hulls of four steamers of the first Cunarder fleet.
