RESULT OF A MISTAKE
MOB OF UNEMPLOYED.
AGENT AND BAILIFF ATTACKED.
Under the impression that a financier’s agent and a bailiff were to hold a sale in a house of an unemployed man living at Brunswick, Victoria, who, it was stated, had failed tv satisfy a debt of £5, a number of unemployed men set upon the agent and the bailiff a few days ago. The agent, who is a young man, defended himself powerfully, and after the bailiff had escaped made his way out of the house through a window. The house was surrounded, and after the agent had struck down one man the crowd attacked him, then pursued him along the street into another street. He was struck down four times and received severe brui.ses on the face and head. Another portion of the mob chased the bailiff, who was rescued by a woman, who admitted him to her house. It wae found subsequently that the agent and the bailiff had gone to the house to obtain the debtor’s signature to an agreement that he should pay the amount owing in small monthly instalments.
