“LEARN TO SWIM” WEEK
PROGRESS AT OPUNAKE. MANY LEARN AT EITZROY. . Continued progress in the instruction of school children throughout Taranaki to swim took place yesterday. Already numbers .of children have gained sufficient., confidence to Bwirn a.few strokes. About 40 children from the Opunake publicVschool received their first swimming lessons in the Opunake .Power Board like'yesterday when Messrs. G. N. Stephenson and P. Smith, of the Opunake Surf Life-Saving Club, gave instruction. ' The children progressed exceedingly Well during the instruction period and in nearly every ease good results are . expected. wap given in land drill and later in the breaststroke.
The Opunake Surf Club intends to communicate with the Opua, Arawl ata, Ihaia, Pihama and surrounding schools with a view to bringing the children-'into Opunake on’- Saturday for. a “learn to swim” rally., At the Fitzroy pbol, where instruction 4s under the supervision of Mr. G. A. Lyall and club instructors, exceedingly good, results have been achieved. Already '4l children have learned tp swim and ? the (remainder are progressing rapidly. Of those who have learned during ’ the. past three days 36 are from the Fitzroy school and five from the Bell Block school squad.
