NEW PLYMOUTH CASH CLUB. , The New Plymouth Cash Athletic Club’s third evening meeting, held last night af : Western Park, was a great success. The fields were the largest yet turned out, the 100 yards having to be run in two heats. Fifteen runners competed, in . the different eVents. The finishes were close,. especially in the mile, where L. Tuffery and his brother, G. Tuffery, struggled neck and neck over the last. 50 yards, the former just winning. The final of the IQO yards was very close. Aubery, a new runner, ran exceptionally well and was only beaten on the tape by the fast finishing Cole from Waitai’a. There was a number of spectators. ’ To-morrow night a number of New Plymouth runners will visit Waitara, where 220 yards and SSO yards events will be run. Next week’s races will be 120 yards, 440 yards and half mile and there will be a hop, step and jump.;

Tuffery caught the field at the beginning of the second lap.and stopped there with Anderson leading. In the next lap Anderson dropped out, leaving Plucke in the lead, followed by G. ■ Tuffcty. This order remained unaltered till the last lap, wheii L. Tuffery went to the front, but was strongly challenged by his brother.
