“CLOCKS NOT TOILET ARTICLES.”

Greymouth, Feb. 16. Two Greymouth chemists, L. F. Hogg and Williams and Ross, were proceeded against by the inspector of factories for a breach of the Shops and Offices Act, section 31. The charge was that, carrying on exclusively the business of chemists, they failed to close their shops from 6 p.m. The point raised was whether fancy goods, including clocks and bead necklaces, were toilet requisiThe magistrate, Mr. Meldrum, to-day decided that necklaces, being used in connection with dressing, could be classed as toilet requisites, but that clocks, not being part of a special toilet set, should not be exposed for sale after hours. Defendants were convicted and order, ed to pay .costs.
