WELLINGTON GAINS A LEAD. J?y Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wilding Shield tennis matches commenced to-day in wintry weather. On the first day's play Wellington leads Canterbury by four rubbers to two. Detailed results, Wellington players first:— D. G. France beat C. Angas; 6—4, 6—3. N. R. C. Wilson beat I. A. Seay, 6—l, 6—3. A. L. France beat H. A. Barnett, 6—o, A. E. Sandral lost to T. Patterson, 2—6, .4—6. France and France beat Patterson and Barnett, 6—2, 6—o.
Wilson and Sandral lost to Angas and Seay, 7—5, 5—7, 4—-6.
