COUNCIL COULD NOT VOTE
REMISSION OF PENALTY ON RATES UNIQUE POSITION AT WAIROA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wairoa, Feb. 10. A unique position was disclosed at last night’s .meeting of the Wairoa Boimugli Council when the question of imposing a 10 per cent., penalty on rates came up for discussion. The section of the act read, showed that any councillor in arrears could not vote on a resolution granting him any financial benefit. This would be the case of councillors present who voted for the remission of the 10 per cent, penalty. The information came as a bombshell as only one councillor present had paid his rates, although allowed until the end of February to do so. After a, lengthy discussion the meeting adjourned till Thursday to. enable the council to communicate with the Minister of Internal Affairs.
