BOXING WEIGHT LIMITS
HAWERA MAN’S DIFFICULTIES.
ASSOCIATION’S ANNOYANCE.
Weight limits in boxing matches other than those in the recognised classes were discussed at the Hawera Boxing Association’s meeting last night and the committee was recommended to take up the question with the ■ New Zealand Council..
The discussion arose when Mr, E. T. Simon reported that Bobby Blay would not fight Jack Jones unless the Hawera man made Ost 51b.
“It appears to me,” said Mr. S. Moore, “that something is wrong. Donovan and Blay are lighting as lightweights next week while Jones, another lightweight, cannot get a fight at the ciass limit of Ost 91b. We-are importing American boxers while, a Brilon bred and. born cannot secure bouts. A may. over 9st is a lightweight and no junior lightweight class is recognised in New Zealand. Unless the council does something this will kill the sport.”
