AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY MEETS.

HALF HOLIDAY ON PEOPLE’S DAY.

The general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society held a meeting at New Plymouth yesterday. Present: Messrs. H. C.' Sampson (chairman), J. H. Allen, A. T. Moore, J. M. Smith, J. P. Goddrick, G. W. Browne, H. Trimble, W. B. Grant, W. Hall, John Brown, A. J. Luxton, A. P. Lister, A. Turnbull, W. K. Morris, F. Dodunski and P. J. Petersen. . On the recompiendation of the executive Mr. T. Wilson and the secretary were delegated to ascertain particulars from t-haborough engineer and Mr. Charles Swanson regarding connecting the showgrounds - ater supply to the water main recently laid past the showgrounds. It was decided to connect the borough water supply to a trough at the Katbro experimental area. m . The application of the Taranaki union executive of the Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class for. the use of the showgrounds and buildings for a camp from April 2 to April 7 waa grafted. Mr. J. M. Smith was thanked for the preparation of /reports on the work conducted at the .Katere experimentalarea. 1 The Taranaki Employers’ Association wrote stating that it had acceded to the society’s request that New Plymouth retailers should observe a half holiday on People’s Day at the; show. A similar letter was received from the Waitara Retailers’ Association. The committee decided to write to the New Plymouth High School Board of Governors asking that the pupils be a holiday on People’s Day. Mr. A. Turnbull was appointed, supervisor of the cattle section at the show with Mr. L. Andrews as his assistant. Mr. D. Mac Kay was appointed number ticket steward.

The committee decided id adopt the method of arranging the grand paradq introduced by Mr. E. Griffiths for the coming show. Messrs. H. C. Sampson, C. W. Ruebe, T.. Wilson, J. H. Allen, T. Smellie, D, .Mac Kay and G. V. Tate were appointed a committee to revise the garden vege--1 tables and field- roots sections of the winter show. , \

Mr. W.- Hogg was appointed judge of the fats and freezers in the sheep' section in place of Mr. Opanffiiaw. Mr. A. C. Schmidt, Waitara, was elected a member of the society.
