ROAD OR RAIL TRANSPORT
ENGLISH RAILWAY’S DEVICE. London, Jan. 22. A "rorailer” engine is the latest invention built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, . to co-ordinate road and rail transport. It was given a demonstration run to-day. The designers have been secretly engaged for two years upon the engine. It is equipped for use on the road with pneumatic-tyred wheels, running outside flanged iron wheels for use on the railway lines. The vehicles are fitted with buffers, but otherwise they have the appearance of ordinary motor-buses and motor waggons.
The engines develop 120 horse-power and on rails the "rorailer” has the speed of an express train. It can easily be transferred from road to rail, and has been designed primarly for branch line traffic.
