AUSTRALIAN’S DEATH
NEAR TO STARVATION.' London, Jan. *2l. It was revealed at an inquest at Camberwell to-day, that George Robert Palliser, aged 59, an Australian who was found dead in hia bed in a lodging-house in Camberwell Road on Saturday, was identified from a photograph taken after his death. The Deputy-Commissioner ; for Pensions at Australia House identified him. I’alliser was a private in the 17th Battalion of the A.I.E. at Anzac. A doctor said I’alliser was in a "shocking state.” He was near starvation, but death was due to heart failure. The coroner, addressing Edward Sharpe, deputy-keeper of the lodginghouse, said: “Any intelligent person would have seen that this man needed medical attention. It is perfectly shocking that he should have ’ been allowed to die as he did;” A verdict of death from natural tauses was returned. • —
