DUTCH EAST INDIES
TRADE WITH DOMINION. VISIT OF COMMISSIONER. Au announcement that tentative arrangements had been made for a visit to the Dutch East Indies by Air. L. Schmidt, New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Sydney, has been made by the Minister of"lndustries and Commerce, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle. The Minister referred to his recent decision to investigate the possibilities of increasing the Dominion’s trade with the East Indies and he added that Mr. Schmidt would shortly pay an official visit with that end in view. It was pointed out that New Zealand’s trade balance with the Dutch East Indies was unfavourable to her at the moment. In 1929 the Dominion exported goods valued at £19,191 to the East Indies, but her imports from that source were valueci at £1,152,705. The principal exports are butter, which is the largest item, but which was valued at only £BBOB in 1D2.9; casein, dried and preserved milk, cream cheese, bunker, coal and bunker fuel oil.
