STOLE CREAM FROM DAIRY

INCIDENTS AT BROOKLANDS ROAD

YOUTH FINED BY MAGISTRATE.

Theft of cream was admitted by Norman Paulger in the New Plymouth Police Court yesterday, and he w«& fined £1 and ordered to repay the value of the cream, 4s. Paulger was working for Mrs, Mathilde Malcolm, Brooklanda Road, but waa put off, explained Sergeant McGregor, Mre. Malcolm noticed that for some months cream from her dairy disappeared and water or milk was added to the container. Paulger lived opposite to her with his parents and the charges he had admitted related to six pounds of cream on January 3 and a similar quantity on January 7. On being taxed with the offenco Pavh said he had taken the cream to his mother, but she denied any knowledge of it. Then her son said he had put the cream in the can without telling his mother. In 1929 he had been ordered to come up for sentence when called upon for the theft of a bicycle lamp. Adjutant McKenzie, of the Salvation Army, said the youth was simple. He was sure the mother had known nothing about the matter. Upon being consulted by the magistrate' Mr. Dineen (probation officer) said Paulger was too stupid for probation to be any benefit. He suggested a fine would be the best method of dealing with him, ■ “And see that it eomes out of his own pocket,” said the magistrate when announcing the penalty.
