“Britain not only is devouring its resources but is ruining the character of its people.” “The worst fate of money is getting into the public purse.” Such were the declarations of. Sir Robert Horne and Sir Ernest Benn respectively at a great demonstration at Cannon Street Hotel with overflow meetings, to emphasise again the urgent national need for, public economy. Lord Grey of Fallodon, supported the other speakers. The meeting resulted in the inaguration of 'a campaign which an influential organisation called the 1' riends of Economy will stimulate throughout the countryside. It was resolved that national, local and personal economy was essential to a recovery of prosperity and that the Government should cease all expenditure not absolutely necessary. It was suggested' that citizens of other towns should hold similar meetings.
