AMERICAN ATHLETES’ TOUR

ATTENDANCE AT CHAMPIONSHIPS WELLINGTON PROTEST FRUITLESS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Little time was wasted by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association this evening in throwino- out a recommendation of the Wellington Centre that the visiting American athletes should be excluded from participation in the New Zealand track championships to be held at Dunedin. The recommendation was carried at a full meeting of the Wellington Centre last evening. The centre suggested to the council that in place of the Americans appearing in the national track championship events they should appear instead in special handicap events. When the of the centre was read this evening the secretary of the council, Mr. L. A. Tracy, said he had received a telegram from the Otago Centre saying it utterly opposed the Wellington suggestion and adding that it was on the understanding that the Americans would appear that Otago had accepted control of the championship meeting. It was pointed out by council members that the participation of the Americans did not affect the holding of titles and that it had a good effect on the performance of New Zealand athletes. . The suggestion made by Wellington met with scant approval and a motion that no action should be taken in the matter was carried without a dissentient.
