WAITARA WELL BEATEN
NEW PLYMOUTH * TAKES TROPHY. TEAM’S ALL-ROUND. SUPERIORITY. With a majority of wins in every division except the ladies, singles the New Plymouth Tennis Club team wrested the Soffe Cup from Waiters in a match at the Waitara courts’? on Saturday. New Plymouth won every set in ; the men’s singles, ladies’ doubles .and'mixed doubles. In the ladies’ singles, however, Waitara’s top three won and . saved the team from complete rout, being helped by McDavitt and Browning’s win; over Thompson and Ballantyne. This , doubles match was probably the best set of. the day’s play, McDavitt showing great form ft and playing almost flawlessly. ft ft- ; At the conclusion ..of the afternoon Mr. W. Middleton, president of the' Waitara club, formally handed the cup to tie winning team. Mr. Aft.W. Diprose , replied on behalf of the New .Plymouth club, thanking Waitara for its hospitality.
