POWER BOARD CHARGES

FURTHER DISCOUNT OPPOSED. A proposal to grant a further 2J per cent, discount on accounts was made at the South Taranaki Power Board’s meeting in Hawera, on Friday night by the chairman (Mr, J. B. Murdoch). Support was lacking, however, and no action was taken. The discount suggested would affect ’ the board’s revenue to the extent of, £6OO or £7OO, said Mr. Murdoch. Such a step would be appreciated, specially by farmeiTS. The discount would be so small as to confer no material benefit on the majority of consumers, thought Mr. E. Long. The decrease in revenue to the board, would, on the other hand, be considerable. . Any reductions should be left in abeyance until May, said Mr< L. A. Bone. The Government bulk' supply of power would then be available and the board had promised to make a considerable reduction in charges then. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TENNIS. Lew Alter composed “Love Ain’t Nothing but the Blues” with Joe Goodwin, which King uses as a specialty song. Fred Fisher, George Ward and'Reggie Montgomery joined in writing “My Dynamic Personality,” in which Marie Dressier scores. The plan is open at Miss Blake’s and is already rapidly filling.
