LATE ENTRY WINS TROPHY

• JERSEY CATTLE CLUB OBJECTS. The admissibility of an entry by Mr. A. C. Lovelock in the Jersey section at the recent Egmont A. and P. show; was questioned by certain exhibitors owing to its alleged, receipt after the eloping date. The acceptance of this entry, which secured a third place, en-‘ abled the exhibitor to secure the Wright, Stephenson points cup, controlled by the Hawera Jersey Club. Had not this entry been accepted a New Plymouth competitor would have won the trophy. That the entry should be accepted as correct was the decision of the committee of the A. and P. Association at a meeting held at the end of November, after an exhaustive inquiry. z Further discussion of the matter took ■place at an executive meeting of the (Hawera Jersey Cattle Club on Saturday, when a motion was passed strong-, ly disapproving Mr. Lovelock’s action in making an additional entry. The motion considered the Egmont A. and P. Association committee had committed a grave error in the executive’s opinion in accepting the entry. TE ROTI SCHOOL BREAK-UP. FANCY DRESS DANCE HELD. On .Friday night the close of the school year at Te 'Roti was celebrated with a fancy dress dance for children. Practically all the pupils attended ,in costume, the display being a bright one and a credit to the parents and children. • The programme consisted of a number of folk dances. The senior scholars pleasingly rendered a chorus. Each child received . a book and a bag of sweets. Good attendance certificates were presented to Joyce. Jordan and Vineent Bloor. The trophies for last year’s calf-rearing were also presented — a, cup to Jean McAsey and a medal to Ray Bloor. In making the presentations the chairman of the school committee, Mr. M. Condon, appealed to parents to send their children to school regularly so that the grade of the school could be maintained; otherwise they were in danger of losing a teacher. The roll was now 40, an increase of four, and the teacher’s report indicated that the school was making good progress. It was regrettable that a new site could not yet be obtained for a more modern building. The head teacher, Mrs. Finch, thanked the committee and parents who had assisted in the school activities.

Selma Todd (infants) and Mary Cockerton (seniors) presented the teachers, Mrs. Finch and Mies North, with a Christmas gift from the respective divisions. ■ The result, of a competition for a mat organised by the Junior Red Cross group was announced, the winner being Mr. G. Cockerton.
