VARIOUS STREETS REPAIRED.
CYCLES WITHOUT SILENCERS.
The Eltham Borough Council met last night. Work oh streets .and in the parks was reviewed. The inspector referred in his report to a campaign against noisy motor-cycles. The, overseer reported that patching had been carried out on Mountain Road, Bridge Street, West, King Edward, Castle, Bedford, Collingwood, North, Railway, Glentworth, Hill, Bgth, Mills, Kegworth and Graham Streets. The path from the railway line westward on Bridge Street and Collingwood Street front' Bridge Street’ to West Street had beenjcleaned. The path in Moir Street from Boutke Street northward had been chipped and,, cleaned. Weed destroying had been carried out on Stanners Street, Cornwall Street and Bridge Street where top-dressing was to be done. An approach : had been put down in front of Jthe rennet factory’s new building. The - tree limbs overhanging, the bridge and .blocking: .the light from the. path in Londoh'.Street had been cut. The tall fescue on Cornwall Street and Little Moir Street > arid the grass in the enclosure at Taumata Park had been cut.
The inspector reported that during the month he had given 17 notices to owners of motor-cycles to have their silencers repaired. It had been the practice of some owners to remove, parts of their silencers. That practice would have to be stopped. / / The inspector had made the usual inspection of the ' borough and found -thihgs in a satisfactory condition. Four driving licenses had been issued during the month. He had impounded six head of stock. For the cqniing year 80 dog collars would be required. .
The caretaker'Stated that with: the extra labour during the month a big improvement had been made on the main path going' down to the river at Taumata Park. The path had been graded and a kerb and concrete water channel formed on the left hand side £oing down the path. The improvement on the hockey ground had .'been finished and sown. A hutch had been made for the Angora rabbits donated to the borough by Mr. A. Coleman. In soldiers’ memorial park the fern and long grass had been Cut from the shrubs near the borough cottdge. In the children’s park gradual improvements ivere being' made. More shrubs had been donated by Duncan and Davies during the month. The lawn had been cut drid SflO stocks planted. Mr. C. Rowe had given about 60 gladioli corins which had Been planted. Having received a complained from the Taranaki Power Board that gum trees were growing into the wires, the caretaker had cut 12 trees., at the cemetery. The sanitary inspector', reported lone case of diphtheria and one of pulmonary tuberculosis. Seven milk samples had’ been thken. A
i The matter of interference with gas fittings and disfigurement of walls at Taumata Park pavilion was referred to the police fox'action.
