Railway construction problems, it is understood, have been engaging the at: tention of the Cabinet recently, and it is stated there is a. decided possibility of the programme which has been laid down by the Government for the next few years 'being modified considerably. It is reported that the Government has been considering the cessation of activities on one or two lines under construc- ; tion, but official confirmation is not available. . , ■ -. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, left last night on a flying visit to Christchurch in connection with railway matters, and he will return to Wellington to-morrow,
