Rec. 9.30 p.m. . Canberra, Dec. 18. The Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. J. E. Fenton, to-day s .nounced that cash subscriptions to the £28,000,000 loan already amounted to £17,173,790 and conversions to £11,393,650, making a total of £28,567,440, which he described as a wonderful achievement considering that the-loan was open for only four weeks. Mr. Fenton anticipated that the loan would be oversubscribed by £2,000,000. The Times, according to a London cable, says the success of the loan shows that the‘Australian people have faith in the future, and do not believe in the danger of repudiation or even inflation. The result should make Mr. Scullins position less di-Vcult and encourage those other sturdy fighters, , the Labour Premiers of Victoria and South Australia. •
