AMATEUR ATHLETICS

NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE.

CARNIVAL ARRANGEMENTS FIXED.

The committee of the New Plymouth Amateur Athletic CHub last night made arrangements for its carnival. Dr. P. C. Davie presided. His resignation from the position of president, was received from Mr. J. S. S. Medley. Several members spoke of the long service Mr. Medley had given to the club and felt that he should be asked to reconsider his decision. For this purpose, a deputation was selected to approach Mr. Medley. ' The club’s delegate advised that notice had been given of a motion that clubs holding carnivals should be required to forward the centre 10 per cent, of the profits. ‘ ‘ ■A' The members of the committee strongly opposed the move, which they considered would be a deterrent to ap energetic club; and suggested that the delegate propose an annual payment of £5 for each .club. • . The Eltham club advised that the Taranaki championship meeting would be held at Eltham on January 17. It was regretted the finances of the club would not permit paying the expenses of the New Zealand lady champion, Miss Kench, and her chaperone from Wellington. It was pointed out that the best ladies in the Wanganui-Tara-naki centre would be competing. The following officials were elected for the evening carnival on December •26: Mr. J. S. King (manager), Dr. G. H. Thomson (referee), Messrs. C. Cuff, Hooker, R. Bell and Wright (inspectors), Mr. C. Cuff (clerk of course),* Dr. P. C. Davie, Messrs. Eggletdu and Marter (field judges), Messrs. G. Cathie, and S. King (field scorers), Messrs.: F. S. Varnham, C. H. Weston and L. B. Webster and Dr. Fookes (track judges), Messrs. J. Lowe (track gate) and Mr. C. N. Pryor"(secretary). . The dance committee reported completion of preliminary arrangements. The following remit will be forwarded to the centre: “That at annual meetings of the centre, a definite date should be fixed for the current year;, that clubs be notified immediately of that ed date and invited to apply for the meeting, the successful club to be notified by‘the centre at once. This date should not be subject to alteration.”

The representatives of the club at the ladies’ carnival at Hawera, were congratulated upon their splendid performance.
