DUTY ON CAST IRON PIPES
INDUSTRY SEEKS PROTECTION.

A revision of the duties ph imported cast iron pipes was sought by a deputation from the Onekaka Iron and. Steel Company which waited on Messrs. E. A. Ransom, A. J. Murdoch and R. Masters to-day. The deputation stressed the need for protection from competition from abroad and a duty-of £2 a ton on imported pipes was sought. Mr. Ransom said the. representations would receive full consideration, and would be placed before Cabinet.
