The piako County Council, which had already reduced staff arid administrative cdeta well below those of neighbouringcounties, decided on further economies to-day, when .wages and salaries werp reduced all round. Casual workers were reduced, from 14s 6d .to 14s, the foreman and others getting 17s 2d per day to. 16s, and the engineering and clerical staff were reduced by 10 per cent. The chairman foregoes his honorarium and the councillors their travelling. expenses ■ for three months.
