Sir.—To enable your readers at Wed' nesday’s meeting to grasp at the enormous ‘’uplift” of Government expenditure, kindly oblige by giving us, briefly, the amount it cost to run this country in the Above years. Thanking you in anticipation. —I am, etc., BYSTANDER, (The revenue of the Consolidated Fund was £1’2,220,in the year ended March 31, 1014, and the expenditure was £11,825,8&4, In 1029-30 the Government received £'2&49, 8fll, including £19,474,115 from taxation, and epent £25,200,882. The estimates given in the Budget for the current year, ending on March 31 next, are: Revenue, £25,120,000; expenditure, £24,874,000. The Budget estimate of the amount to be obtained from taxation thie year was £•20,070,000, but it ia now understood that this sum will not be realised.—-Ed., Daily News).
